I wish to express my support of the effort to encourage the National Park Service to restore the gravestones removed from the Slave Meadow at Meadows of Dan, Virginia, during construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway over 60 years ago. However, I believe it would be more appropriate to erect a single monument in this meadow to commemorate and acknowledge, not only these people, but also the countless other unknown slaves and black Americans who contributed to the settlement of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
