Genealogy - November, 1988

Issue: November, 1988

[Dear Editor,]
I need information on Rachel Graham who married Daniel Boothe in Montgomery County, Virginia on June 28, 1827. Daniel was the son of an early settler in this area, George Boothe. Daniel Boothe's first marriage was to Sarah McAlexander in Patrick County, Virginia on May 24, 1805. They had 6 children. Rachel Graham was the second wife of Daniel Boothe. Their children were: Edith who married Robert Graham (my line); Rachel who married Miles; and maybe Asa who married Eliza Spangler. Daniel Boothe married his third wife, Susannah Hubbard in Patrick County, Virginia on December 27, 1836.

Rachel Graham Boothe had a son by a previous marriage, Amos A. Graham who married Permillia Richards on November 7, 1848 in Floyd County, Virginia. I need information on Rachel's parents, her first husband and her children.

Thank you for your help.

[Dear Editor,]
I am searching for information on the Bales Family. I have found where my great-grandfather, Henry T. Bales married Mary H. Smith on November 8, 1867. Henry T. Bales was born in Tazewell County, Virginia. His parents were William and Moriah Bales. I would appreciate any information on the family but I am particularly interested in finding a maiden name for Moriah Bales and any reference to Indian heritage, supposedly Cherokee.

[Dear Editor,]
I am searching for information on William L. Simmons, born December 13, 1843. He was the son of Thomas R. Simmons and Famah Booth. He was married to Rachel M. Roop by Owen Summers in Floyd County, Virginia. W.L. Simmons joined the Primitive Baptist Church at White Oak Grove, November 8, 1873. He was ordained to the work of the ministry August 14, 1878 by H. B. Lester, Clerk. He had two brothers, Daniel R. and Everett. There may have been more children in the family. William L. Simmons was my grandfather. There were 11 children in his family. They moved to West Virginia around 1888. I would greatly appreciate information on Simmons and Roop, White Oak Grove Church location, if it still stands and the home places of them.
