Genealogy - Winter, 1996

Online: Autumn, 1996

8/14/96- All of my kin come from around the South Hill, Virginia area, which is due east of Danville. It's my understanding that the Moores originate from either North Carolina, where they walked ashore, or Georgia, where they were drug ashore in chains. My Moore are from the North Carolina bunch. :)

I would like to hear from any of the Moores online.

9/6/96- My great grandfather C.E. Moss married Lucy Bryant at Glenmore Church in Glenmore, Buckingham Co. I have been to Glenmore and found two churches, both of which are too new to have been the correct one. C.E.'s mother was also a Lucy, but there are no records of his father at Buckingham C.H. (the courthouse burned down in 1866). Lucy Bryant's father was James Monroe Bryant and her mother Mildred Ann Ripley. Any help finding more information about these people and Glenmore Church would be appreciated.

12/30/96- I would like leads on the family of Roselia Hartberger Gilley, born 1868 in Roanoke, VA, she died in 1906 and is buried in the Hartberger family plot in Roanoke, VA.

Next to Roselia is the grave of her husband, W. F. Gilley, born March 16, 1867, died Oct. 26, 1942 I am seeking leads on the Gilley family of Patrick County, VA. His parents are perhaps Peter and Reosa A. Gilly of . I would also like information on the location of that plot in Roanoke where they are buried.

I would appreciate any leads on these questions. When did they come?

Where did they come from? I've traced other lines of my family back to their arrival in the 1600s to New England, but still have no idea of the origins or time of arrival in this country of the southern contingent of Gilleys or the Hartbergers, though it seems obvious that the names are Irish and German respectively.
