1/22/99- I am looking for any info on my grandmothers family. Her name was Armedia Meadows Bailey Blankenship. Her mom was Phalista and dad was William H. Meadows. She had 3 brothers, Wyatt, Adam, and George. This was in the 1875's or earlier. Her sisters were Gracie Meadows, Rosabelle and Rosalee Meadows, twins.

We do know George migrated to the Knox Creek, Buchannon County, Va. area and married a Lydia Justus. They were murdered and beheaded by a robber in 1915 or later. My dad, Elice Bailey and his half brother, Oliver Blankenship are the last of his family. They reside in McDowell counties in a small rural town. They have little info to help me complete this family tree, any help would be greatly appreciated.

1/28/99- I'm new at Genealogy and need help finding ancestors. My Grandfather Thomas Mac Jones, was son of John Jones Sr and his wife Elizabeth McDaniel Jones who were from the Roanoke and Lynchburg area. They settled in Gallia Co Ohio where my grandfather Thomas, John Jr and Jayhu were among the children they raised. After Civil War John Jr settled in Missouri where Thomas joined him, there he met and married Sarah Davidson in 1889. I'm told family served in American Revolution but John Sr is as far as I've gotten. In 1941 an Aunt was in contact with a nephew who was to show her the graves and houses where they had lived. But WWII ended travel and she never got to go. Now anyone who knew the name of the relatives in Va are gone. Thomas was born in 1864. It is the Virginia connections that I'm looking for.

5/3/99- Thank you so much for your help. Need information on the "Beaver Dam Settlement." In geneological notes mostly from families, Beaver Dam is identified as a settlement on drained land identified by John Finley (son of Archibald and Indian trader/scout from Carlisle, PA 1700s ). John was scouting land for the location of the Forbes Military Highway. He located land, a beaverdam, near the mouth of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers, which when drained could provide good farm land for produce which could be sold to the military personnel at Ft. Pitt. nearby. John expressed his find when he returned to Carlisle and many Finley/ Findley famillies, friends and other related families crossed the Allegheny Mts (ca1769-1770) to settle the land. The settlement was called Beaver Dam.

My line, John Findley who immigrated in 1761 (married to Mary Boyd and father to Able Sr who was married to Rebecca Coutney), and his four brothers were a part of this Settlement. John Finley, the trapper/scout was a cousin of John Findley's father William Findley. William 1715 immigrated in 1773. One of his other sons' was the Honorable William Findley associated with the Whiskey Rebellion. They and John, the trapper/scout were also cousins to the Rev. James and Samuel Finley. They all were Scotch-Irish Presbyterians and early settlers in Pa., Carlisle and Westmoreland. All fought in the Revolutionary War. My line floated down the Ohio River in the early 1800. to settle in Indiana and eventually in Iowa. I suppose that the settlement was either renamed or destoyed in a flood. perhaps before records were kept and before history was written anywhere but in a Bible or a mind. It is, however, quite fascinating to visualize the Findleys plowing the ground of Three River Stadium. It has caused me to become a Steeler Fan by default.

6/7/99- I am researching some of my ancestors from the Blue Ridge Mountains. I don't know the exact town they lived in but it was Franklin County. My first Clingenpeel on American soil was Joseph Clingenpeel (born Josef Klingelbiel) who was a Hessian mercenary soldier during the American Revolution. He deserted his troops in 1778 and stayed in Berks County, PA. He married in 1780 and they had their first few children in PA (John, George and Jacob, I believe) and by about 1785, he had purchased a farm in Franklin County and set up residence there. He and his wife went on to have several more children (Nathaniel, Jonathan, Sophia, Elizabeth, Daniel, Peter and Susanna...for a total of 11, to the best of my knowledge). Some of them stayed in Franklin County although others migrated to Ohio (Preble, Miami and Darke Counties) so there must be information somewhere in Virginia repositories.

Some of the Franklin County families that married into the Clingenpeel line were Kilkenny, Hambrick, Kennedy, Betz, Brower, Sink, Fisher, Goode and Stripe (Strode?). Due to a handicap, it is very difficult for me to get to research facilities and I live in California. Might anyone have suggestions of online records repositories or other information about the Clingenpeel family?

Many thanks...

8/9/99- I am searching for information on a Morgan family who owned an Estate in Lynchburg during the mid-1800s. I do not know Mr. Morgan's name. He died prior to 1848. His widow, Caroline, remarried in 1848. Her second husband was my great-great uncle, Dr. William Perry Robert Allison. Theirs was a volitive union and they were divorced in 1855. Mr. Morgan and Caroline had 2 - possibly 3 - children. One was a son, Alexander. They also had a home in Mississippi - probably in the Coffeeville area. I know what happened to Dr. Allison after the divorce...but what happened to Caroline? Did she remarry? Where is she buried?

I have many papers handwritten by Dr. Allison describing their marriage and their trips to Bath Alum and Rockbridge Alum. Does anyone have any information on Caroline Morgan Allison or her descendants?

11-2-99- Maybe someone can help me with a little problem I have encountered. My GGGrandfather, William Humphreys, b.1782 in Henry Co. VA., son of Morris Humphreys (Wales?) emigrated to Gallia, Ohio and there married Clarissa Lotz, G Granddaughter of the Melchior Brumbach and Mary Elizabeth Fischbach of the 1714 colony of Germanna. We know that William's brother, Morris Jr. served along with him and Abraham Lotz in the War of 1812 from Ohio. My question, maybe unanswerable, is, did William and Morris Jr. travel alone, to be some of the earlier settlers of Ohio? Are there any siblings and family that stayed in VA. and live there still. Would appreciate siblings names etc. I didn't meet my Humphreys side until 1992, due to a divorce and though I had been given some information, my half-brother and the cousin that were giving me my paternal family died before everything was told to me. I just found out about the Germanna connection last week via the internet, so that has been interesting. So, I guess I am looking for HUMPHREYS, LOTZ'S, WOLF'S etc in Henry Co., Shenandoah Co. and Frederick Co. Thank you.

12-15-99- I am researching the Freeman, Dotson, Salyer, Beverly, Powers, Hollingsworth, Kennedy, Gilliam families of southwestern Virginia. Especially trying to find the ancestors of Joseph T. Freeman born circa 1833 who married Sarah Jane Powers, daughter of Jeremiah Powers of Russell County, Virginia.

Any information on any of these families would be greatly appreciated.

Joseph T. Freeman appeared out of nowhere to a part of either Russell County or Scott County, Virginia, circa 1850, that became Wise County. One census says he was born in 1833 in North Carolina, a later census says he was born in Missouri.

12/20/99- I am searching for information on Abram, Abner, Alexander, or A A Brady (all the same person) whose wife's name was Mary. Abram is listed in the 1850 census as age 51 with the occupation of a miller in Surry County, N C. He is listed with his wife (age 45) and children, John (age 19 a blacksmith who married Malinda Ayers and settled around Pulaski County, Va), Elizabeth (age 16 who married Minzy Walls in 1851 and lived for a while in Carroll Co, Va), Mary Ann (age 14 who had two children Daniel Washington who was my grandfather and James F), Eliza J (age 13), Emily (age 10 who had a son named Charles), Nathan (age 8 who married Nancy Dobbins around 1870 in Surry County), Martha (age 5 who married a Joseph Marshall and lived in Carroll Co, Va apparently all her adult life), and Lydia (age 2).In addition there was an older daughter Tabitha who by 1850 had married a Kinchen Walls.

Abner died in 1858 as the result of falling into a well. It is my guess that he, his wife, Mary Ann, Emily, Martha, and Lydia had moved from Surry Co, NC to Carroll Co, Va about this time and perhaps he was working on a well and accidentally fell in. I don't know where Nathan was in 1850. I found a Nathan Brady born in Pulaski Co, Va in 1842 which would be the correct age, but I don't think this is the same Nathan, because in 1870 I found a Nathan Brady in Pulaski at the right age but with a different family. I am not able to find any record of this family prior to 1850. I have read the book about the Bradys of Moore and Chatham Counties. A lot of the information contained in the book seems to relate to this family of Bradys but I just can't seem to make the right connections. For instance, Abner was a miller by trade...Bradley Brady in Moore county had a grist mill. My grandfather and my uncle had grist mills in Carroll Co, Va.

The Bradys in Moore county were musically talented... Bradley played a fiddle I think. I am not sure about Abner, but my grandfather played a fiddle; he gave the fiddle to my cousin Eugene when he learned to play. There is a Tabitha Brady mentioned as the wife or mother of an Owen Brady in Moore Co. Abner and Mary's oldest daughter was named Tabitha. I have been told my Brady heritage thru marriage relates back to the Cherokee Indians. The Moore Bradys seemed to have married to some of the Cherokee. All this seems to fit into my puzzle but the right piece is still missing. I have also found several Nathan Bradys who could be related to the Abner I am looking for but I can't quite make the connection. Does anyone have any record of an Abner, Abram, Alexander or A A Brady born around 1798-1800 who seems to have disappeared from the family tree? The Abners, Abrams, and Alexanders I have found just don't fit.

If anyone has information, I would most happy to fill in the Abner Brady family information that I have.
