The Meadows of Dan Extension Homemakers Council is sponsoring its 8th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival at the Meadows of Dan Community Building on Friday, October 14, 1983 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 15, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Country meals will be served during these hours.

FLOYD COUNTY VOLUNTEER. RESCUE SQUAD The Annual Floyd County Volunteer Rescue Squad Ham Supper will be held September 10, 1983 at the Floyd Elementary School from 5:00-8:30 pm. Advance tickets will be $3.00, Adults; $2.00 children; At-the-door costs will be $3.50 and $2.50. Children under six years of age being admitted free. Take out dinners will be available and advance tickets are available from Rescue Squad and Rescue Squad Auxiliary members. This is always a nice dinner with plenty of food and the people enjoying the fellowship of their friends and neighbors.

On October 8, 1983 we are planning a bus trip to the Williamsburg Pottery. The bus will be leaving the Floyd Area. Reservations will be made on a first-come-first-serve basis. Box 257, Floyd, Va. 24091, or send name, address and telephone number along with $30. to reserve a seat.

Participants can relax and enjoy the trip and it will be a good opportunity to do some Christmas shopping at the Pottery, which has plants, glassware, baskets, and much more than pottery to offer the shopper.

October 11, 1983, James Mann, a 63 year old minister from the Indian Valley area will hike on the Appalachian Trail for the Rescue Squad. James' goal is to hike 130 miles this year. This will be handled similar to a Walk-a-thon, with sponsors pledging an amount of money per mile that James travels. Pledges will be taken at various points in the County, or pledges and donations may be sent to Lucille Wilson (at the address above) with a note designating what the pledge is for.

The Floyd County Woman's Club is sponsoring its annual FLOYD COUNTY ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL on October 1 and 2. It will be held at the Floyd County High School and the hours will be from 10:00 until 9:00 on Saturday and 1:00 until 5:00 on Sunday. There will be a juried craft show also. Craftsmen wishing to enter this should bring their works to the school between 2:00 and 4:00 on Fri- day and the judging will be held Friday night.

If any area craftsperson would like to be included in the Arts and Crafts Festival to sell their wares, the spaces are $3.00 each. For additional information call Mrs. A.M. Phlegar at 745- 2153 or Mrs. Dale Harter at 745-2149.

There will be a vast variety of hand made crafts from quilts, pottery, all types needle crafts, canned goods, baked goods, woodworking items, paintings, and much more. There will also be food available, cooked by the Woman's Club and free entertainment as well. Follow the signs from Highway 221 in Floyd, Virginia to the school or just stop and ask directions once you get to Floyd. The proceeds from this event will go to community improvement projects such as the library building fund, the Floyd County Rescue Squad and others.
