Last year we made a telephone call to the Salem, Virginia office of The Virginia Department of Highways and inquired how our readers could go about acquiring copies of Virginia county maps. We were told that county maps were available free upon request and since that time, we've been telling folks that they could write for free county maps.
Well, it seems that since our telephone call and notice to our readers that the Salem office has been swamped with requests for free county maps. We were recently told, however, that a policy change has taken place and now county maps are 26 cents each. It still seems like a bargain to us, but we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our readers.
In the future, those wishing copies of Virginia county maps are asked to write:
Virginia Dept. of Highway Transportation
1221 E. Broad Street
Richmond, VA 23219
North Carolina county maps are available for 25 cents each and requests should be addressed to:
North Carolina Dept. of Transportation
P.O. Box 25201
Raleigh, NC 27611
