John Hassell Yeatts was born in Mayberry, Virginia on February 17, 1916. He grew up on Mayberry Creek and Hurricane Hill. He knew Mayberry as a boy growing up in the 1920’s. Over the course of his life, he has seen Mayberry prosper then almost disappear. The stories he writes about this area depict a marvelous time in a wonderful place. He has written two short story collections, Remembering Old Mayberry and A Lantern To Light Me Home, about this area. These books enable their readers to travel to the simpler time of Old Mayberry. For an evening of quiet relaxation, you may purchase either book at Mayberry Trading Post between mile post 180 and 181 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
