Genealogy - May, 1987

Issue: May, 1987

[Dear Editor;]
I wish to obtain information about the following couple who live and died in Patrick County, Virginia. John Clifton, born 22 Dec. 1767, died 6 Jan. 1842 and Edith Clifton, born 5 Mar. 1768, died 18 Mar. 1829.

My ancestors, John Robert Clifton (born 1802 and died after 1880), and his wife, Alcey Grogan, (born 1807 and died after 1880), of Henry County, Virginia and Rockingham County, North Carolina, had children who settled in Patrick County and I wish to learn if there is a connection between the families.

I'd be happy to share any information I have collected.

[Dear Editor;]
I would like to ask your help in tracing my ancestors. My father came to West Virginia in December 1886 from Floyd County, Virginia. His name was Andrew Johnson Hill. My grandfather's name was James Robert Hill. He served as a sergeant in Co. C. 57, Virginia Infantry for the Confederate States of America. He was married to Martha A. Moran.

If you can help me in any way, I will greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

[Dear Editor;]
About 1830, my great-great grandfather, John C. Roberts, and his bride, believed to be Hester (Abbott) Roberts, traveled from New River, Giles County, VA to Blaine, Lawrence County, KY. His date of birth was 1808 and her date of birth was 1810. John C. Roberts was the son of George Roberts, date of birth 1788, and Martha, date of birth 1789. Between 1850 and 1860, George and Martha Roberts also moved to Blaine, KY. George Roberts is believed to be the son of Reuben Roberts, who died in Giles County, VA about 1800. Reuben Roberts was the son of Joseph Roberts, Jr., who died about 1780, at Orange County, VA. The father of Joseph Roberts, Jr. was Joseph Roberts, Sr., who died about 1778, at Henry County, VA. If anyone could provide me with any additional information on the Roberts families, I would be most appreciative.
