Genealogy - June, 1985

Issue: June, 1985

[Dear Editor,]

I would appreciate any information on my great-great-grandfather Thomas Stanley (Sept.17, 1833-March 19, 1927) who married Louvenia Arrington (Jan.26, 1839-June 8, 1930). Also, I would like more information on his father John Stanley (1805-1896). John Stanley was a noted gunsmith in Carroll Co., Va. for many years. I would also like to hear from those who might own one of his guns.

Thank you,

Glenda F. Nance

[Dear Editor,]

I have been tracing my Wall ancestors, but can't find parents of my Great grandfather, Wilson M. Wall. He married Mary Ann Wall and I was told they were cousins.

If anyone knows his parents names or brothers and sisters or descendants from them too, I would like to hear from them. I have two letters written from a Susan Gray and Mary Gray to Mary Wall & family, Jacksonville Courthouse, Floyd County, Va., 1877 and 1878. They were cousins of the Walls and one letter tells of their trip from Henry Co. to Floyd County.

[Dear Editor,]

I am interested in finding any information on my family genealogy (Gillispie-Gallaspy). My father was Thurlo Gillispie (1894-1924). My grandfather was Lewis Edward Gillispie (1873- 1950), my great-grandfather was George H. Gillispie (1843-1908), and I believe my great-great-grandfather was Owen Gillispie (born around 1803 and lived at least until 1880).

I'd love to hear from anyone who may have known any of my relatives or may have pictures or information.

Sincerely,

Russell L. Gillispie

[Dear Editor,]

Seeking information on my great grandfather Joe Pike and family. He was from Boone, N.C. and married a Cherokee Indian and they moved to Meadows of Dan (?), Va. They had 3 boys and 1 girl. The girl was my grandmother. The boys were Cal, Jason and Bill. The girl was Susan. She married Mack Hamm of Patrick Co., Va. Joe Pike was killed in the Civil War. We don't know what became of his wife or where she is buried or anything about the boys.
