Update: 11/6/03 - I didn't post enough on my last posting so I'll try to provide a bit more info. I'm trying to find more about my great great grandmother Olive Bartlett (maiden name King). She and her husband (Leroy G.Bartlett) resided around Copper Hill in Montgomery County which was later renamed Floyd County I believe. She was supposedly full blood Indian and I really would appreciate it if anyone can tell me more.
I've found her birth year differs in research I've done, but it was either 1817 or 1819. She attended a Quaker school in Pennsylvania at one time according to stories passed down.
Thank you for letting me post here and God bless you all in all your efforts.

10/14/03 - I would appreciate if you could assist me researching my g-g-g-grandfather George W. Thompson (b 1799). I know he married Martha Elizabeth Dingus in Scott County, Va. in early 1830's and had 6 children. They lived and are buried in Russell County, Va. on Moll's Creek.
In the Russell County 1850 Census George W. Thompson is listed as being from or born at Taylor, Virginia. I think Taylor would be near Roanoke, but I am not sure.
If anyone has any information on George W. Thompson or the Thompson Family of Taylor, Va. around 1800 I would greatly appreciate the help as I am at the end of the line without your help.

3/10/03 - Hatton Morris - Was born before 1800 in Montgomery County NC. Family included Elias Morris, Sr. also born before 1800 in Montgomery County, NC. In the years leading to 1850, Elias, Sr. and his family trekked to Lee County, VA where we find them in that census. His oldest daughter, Elizabeth, lists as Elizabeth Cooper, Head of Household. In the home are son George 20. Martha is 17. Catherine is 15. Mary is 12. Before the 1860 Census, Elizabeth has died. George is married. The daughters are living with relatives or benevolent neighbors. While we can account for our Cooper and Morris families after 1850 and are proud of our heritage, we can not find them before that census. We are unable to find the marriage for Elizabeth or with whom she may have been married and where. The four children say they were born in VA but none list their father.

1/13/03 - My bushwhacking partner and I, having both been employed and lived in the Park, became fascinated with the pre-Park history and exploration of old homesites and cemeteries.
On Friday (1/10/03), we discovered a very large cemetery on the Rose River Road above the Dark Hollow Bridge where the Rose River and Dark Hollow branch meet.
It had 2 marked headstones---Kitty Sisk and William Hurt. Many, many unmarked fieldstones although one did have another Sisk scratched into it. There was another slab that was covered by dirt and leaves
in a depression that read: Bessie C. Woodward, wife of Celdon [sic] Dodson.
This did not appear to be either the Meadows/Anderson cemetery or the Alger/Smith/Grayson cemetery listed in Appendix 1 of Darwin Lambert's 'The UNDYING PAST of Shenandoah National Park' found at
the approximate location we were at.
I would appreciate any additional info.
